A significant archaeological discovery was made at Ambadapudi village in Acchampet mandal, Palnadu district, where seven stone idols of Hindu deities, including Lord Vishnu, Shiva, Ganesh, Nandi, Goddess, and others, were found in the River Krishna.
The idols were stumbled upon by villagers who had gone to the river for a bath. Remarkably, despite being submerged in one foot deep water, the idols remained intact, with clear signs of having been subjects of ‘pooja’ (worship) rituals.
According to a local villager, the idols were uncovered while digging sand dunes to supply water for a protected drinking water scheme project. There is uncertainty about whether these idols were originally brought from elsewhere and subsequently discarded in the river.
The villagers speculate that these artifacts may have originated from a dilapidated ancient temple, which could have been demolished, leading to the idols’ disposal into the river. As a result of this discovery, the authorities concerned have informed the Archaeological department officials, who will now take over the investigation and preservation of the artifacts.
