700 police officers transferred as per EC directives: DGP

A comprehensive one-day training programme was conducted for Telangana police officers to prepare them for the Assembly elections.

The training, held on Wednesday at the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, was aimed at enhancing the understanding of the police officials of the security modules critical for ensuring a smooth and secure electoral process.

DGP Anjani Kumar said that nearly 700 police personnel had been transferred as per the Election Commission’s directives. He highlighted the establishment of approximately 80 to 85 check posts along the borders with Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Odisha. Equipped with closed-circuit cameras these check posts will strengthen security measures.

CEO Vikas Raj emphasised the dynamic nature of technology and the challenges it poses in the evolving landscape. He noted the extensive media coverage of election-related events and the difficulty in implementing corrective measures swiftly.

The training provided an opportunity to police officers to adopt new strategies and techniques for maintaining security during elections.

DGP Anjani Kumar addressed the officers on various security-related aspects, ranging from vehicle checks to detect the illegal transportation of cash or liquor to the management of polling stations on the day of election.He emphasised the importance of maintaining good practices and transparency to ensure a peaceful and fair election.

CEO Aariz Aftab, hailing from West Bengal, conducted a detailed presentation on the preparatory work leading to elections. He discussed the categorization of polling booths and vulnerability assessments, emphasizing criticality assessments. The CEO’s presentation covered the entire spectrum of security arrangements from pre-poll to post-poll periods.

Satyabrata Sahoo, the CEO of Tamil Nadu, helped senior police officers in comprehending the requirements, induction, deployment and de-induction of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). He delved into the deployment strategies of the state police as well.

Sahoo conducted a session on maintaining law and order, focusing on pertinent issues connected to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and expenditure monitoring. His session also had innovative approaches for improvement in these areas.
