After a gap of 10 years, the Telangana Government convened a meeting of the state-level WALTA (Water, Land and Trees Act) Authority, drawing praise from scientists, environmentalists, and academic experts. Women and Child Welfare Minister Seetakka, who chaired the session, hailed the collaborative inputs offered by specialists of various departments.
Osmania University Civil Engineering Professor Dr P. Rajashekar, Geology Professor I. Panduranga Reddy, Soil Sciences Scientist M. Umadevi, and Jalasaadhana Committee Chairman Dusharla Satyanarayana were among the speakers who gave recommendations to strengthen WALTA.
Environmental activists Dhaid Venkanna and Gundeti Yogeshwar also participated, highlighting grassroots challenges in enforcing conservation measures.
Seetakka expressed gratitude to representatives from the HMDA, the Professor Jayashankar Agricultural University, the Departments of Hydrology, Groundwater, and Forests and Environment for their active engagement.
She announced that pamphlets and booklets, incorporating expert guidance, will soon be distributed across villages to create public awareness on water and ecological conservation.
In a symbolic moment during the meeting, she released a book authored by Mancherial-based environmentalist Gundeti Yogeshwar detailing the environmental and historical narrative of Mancherial district.
