Prevent malnutrition among children: Cabinet Secretary

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba on Friday reviewed with the CSs the measures being taken to prevent malnutrition among children, reduce the number of maternal and child deaths, and increase institutional deliveries and immunization programmes.

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba along with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan held a video meeting from Delhi with the Chief Secretaries of the Governments of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan and Manipur on Friday the sub-theme Health and Nutrition that would be discussed in the second National Chief Secretaries’ meeting to be held from January 5 to 7.

During the video conference, Chief Secretary Dr KS Jawahar Reddy said that the government has initiated many innovative health programmes to protect public health across the state. He explained that measures are being taken to control non-communicable diseases (non-infectious diseases) with a targeted approach. He recalled that during the Covid pandemic, the death rate was 10 percent higher than normal.

The CS mentioned that 70 percent of the population has already been screened in the state under the NCD-CD programme. Ayusman Bharat identity cards have already been created for 3 crore 60 lakh people and 3 crore 50 lakh health cards have been linked with ABDM.

Chief Secretary Dr Jawahar Reddy explained to the Cabinet Secretary that the YSR Health Clinics programme has been given top priority. One village health clinic-cum-HWC has been set up for every 2000-2500 population and full health staff has been appointed. In addition, about 50 types of medicines have been made available. Similarly, MLHPOs are conducting yoga and wellness programmes, continuously monitoring NCD cases, supplying medicines and providing appropriate guidelines for managing people’s lifestyles, he said.

Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare, J Niwas, Director of Women and Child Welfare and Industries Department Dr A Siri Srijana, World Bank Consultant Devaraj and others participated in the VC.
