Telugu Desam Party (TDP) senior leader and former MLA GV Anjaneyulu said that the real tribute to Telugu Desam party founder and former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao is defeating the YSRCP in the next election.

NT Rama Rao took oath as Chief Minister of combined AP state for the first time after the formation of the Telugu Desam party on January 9, 1983. On the occasion of completing 40 years of NTR’s swearing-in as CM of AP, a programme was held here in the TDP office on Monday. TDP leaders including GV Anjaneyulu paid tributes to NTR by garlanding the statue.

Speaking on the occasion, the ex-MLA said that the rich tribute to NT Rama Rao is the defeat of YSRCP which is ruining the democratic values in the state. GV Anjaneyulu said that NTR believed that the society was the temple and the people were the gods, and he worked on the principle of establishing a poverty-free society and filling the Telugu people in the top ranks.

NTR provided reservations to the weaker sections in the education, jobs, and local body elections within 9 months of coming to power. NTR had brought recognition to the Telugu people in the country, he lauded. GV Anjaneyulu said that the construction of a pucca house for the poor, distribution of kg rice for Rs 2, and disbursement of pensions for the elderly and widows was introduced by NT Rama Rao.

He said that apart from providing land to the landless poor, the Telugu Ganga scheme had been initiated to provide water to many regions. Tax collection on agricultural lands was abolished. NTR also provided one HP electricity for Rs 50 rupees to the farmers, he said.

The TDP ex-MLA deplored that today the state is mired in debts and poverty has increased under the rule of Jagan Mohan Reddy. He criticized that the hike of the electricity tariff and the RTC bus fares had put an additional burden on the common man in the state.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy promised to the jobless youths to release a special job calendar but did not. He flayed Rs 47,000 crore of SC/ST/BC and Minority Sub-plan funds had been diverted to other purposes.

“Chandrababu Naidu is the only leader who can fulfil the NTR’s ambitions of establishing a poverty-free society and protest the glory of Telugu people,” GV Anjaneyulu reiterated. A large number of TDP leaders and activists were among those who participated in the programme.
