The Hyderabad police arrested one person involved in procurement of illegal E-cigarettes which contain nicotine and selling them in a bakery at Begumpet. The police seized the E-cigarettes worth Rs 4 lakh and sent the accused to Panjagutta police station. The accused was identified as B Satish (34), owner of Sona Bakery in Begumpet.
According to the police, the accused migrated from Maharashtra 20 years ago and about two years back he purchased one Mulgi at Begumpet and started selling the bakery items. “Due to insufficient income to lead his family, he hatched a plan to sell the banned E-cigarettes to the needy customers at high rates. Accordingly, he came in contact with one person by name Mass, N/o Mumbai and he arranged some E-cigarettes through courier.
Later, Satish collected the banned E-cigarettes and sold them to customers. “E-cigarettes produce a number of dangerous chemicals including acetaldehyde, acrolein and formaldehyde. These aldehydes can cause lung disease, as well as cardiovascular (heart) disease,” the police said.
During the raid, the police seized 40 IGET brand E-cigarettes, 40 ELFBAR E-cigarettes and 16 Youto XX-Cel E-cigarettes worth Rs 4 lakh.
The union government has issued a ban on all E-cigarettes and Vapes due to the negative effects they pose to health and how easily addictive they are.
