Hyderabad-based companies are trying to get employees back to work from office. This is reflected in the survey results as around 1/3rd of companies have greater than 60% of their employees working from offices (WFO) at least two days a week, as per a survey by HYSEA.
Most companies have adopted a hybrid work model where employees WFO for at least three days a week. Small to mid-sized companies tend to have 100% of their employees WFO, while large and very large companies prefer a three-day-a-week WFO policy.
15% of companies have implemented the Flexiwork model, offering employees the option to work from home or office. 33% Small & Mid-Sized companies have 100% WFO numbers compared to only 4% of Large & Very Large Companies. 48% of large and very large companies have three days a week as the preferred work model.
For most companies less than 20% of employees are working from outside Hyderabad, which is expected to continue in 2023 and beyond.
For the future, 75% of companies have established polices for 2-5 days’ Work From Office (WFO), with a majority expecting employees to work from office at least three days a week.
Teamwork and collaboration, organization culture, identity and loyalty, and the desire to increase employees personal and professional growth are the driving factors for employers for Return to office (RTO), across all segments.
For large organisations client imperatives and for small and medium enterprises low productivity in the WFH mode are the primary driving factors for RTO.
The top four constraints highlighted by the companies in getting employees RTO include feeling comfortable with WFH and don’t see any need for WFO. Many employees are outside Hyd. The hybrid/WFH model boosts productivity and the WFH/Hybrid model has kept attrition in check.
Companies do not anticipate significant departures from the current work models in 2023 and beyond. Only a 9% increase is projected under the 100% WFO work model. Large and extremely large organisations want a 3-day work week, while small to midsize companies prefer 100% office work.
10% of companies in all industry segments continue to favour the flexible work approach. 42% SME companies aim to have 100% of workforce operating from office in 2023 & beyond. 13% of large and very large companies foresee a 100% WFO work model for 2023 & beyond.
Two thirds of the companies will have less than 20% of employees permanently working WFH. Only 3% of the companies will have 100% WFH.
A majority of SME companies (72%) will have less than 20% employees working permanently remote. 43% large & very large companies will have less than 20% working remote.
Team work and collaboration was mentioned as the top reason employers to want employees back to office, followed closely by organisation culture, identity and loyalty and to “increase employees’ personal and professional growth.”
In a reversal of trend observed in the early days of the corona pandemic, about 34% of the companies (predominantly small to mid-size) felt low productivity from WFH is an important driver to get employees back to work from office. Large and very large organisations see client imperatives as the key.
