Chairperson-councillors standoff heading for showdown

Must read

The standoff between Municipal Chairperson Seggam Venkata Rani and the majority of  councillors in Bhupalapally Municipality seems to be heading for a showdown. It has led to a rise in political temperature in the district.

It all began with 26 of 30 Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) councillors threatening to move a no-confidence motion against Bhupalapally Municipal Chairperson Seggam Venkata Rani and Vice-Chairman. The councillors also handed over a notice to the Additional Collector as part of their strategy to move a no-confidence motion against the Chairperson and the Vice-Chairman.

On Thursday, the dissident councillors met local MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy and reiterated the demand that the Chairperson and Vice-Chairman be sacked. The councillors even handed over their resignation letters from the council to the MLA. Despite the efforts by the MLA, the councillors refused to relent.
