GHMC trains 389 municipal staff for disaster response

The Enforcement Vigilance & Disaster Management (EV DM) department of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is training a total of 389 personnel from 11 Municipal Corporations and 25 district headquarter municipalities for disaster response and evacuation measures in urban local bodies across the state.

The measures were taken after Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had emphasised on the importance of providing necessary training to municipal staff during a review meeting on April 13.

During a visit to the training management camp at Fathullaguda on Wednesday, Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (C&DMA) Dr N Sathyanarayana, addressed the municipal staff participating in the second batch. He emphasised the importance of applying the lessons learnt during the training and urged them to share their knowledge with fellow staff members in their respective municipalities.

The training programme commenced on May 8. It has conducted in eight batches of six days each with 50 participants per batch. The first batch successfully completed its training on May 13, consisting of staff from Nandu Boduppal, Jawahar Nagar, Medchal and Nizampet. The second batch, which includes personnel from Siddipet, Sircilla, Mahbubnagar, Nagar Kurnool, Asifabad Municipalities and Peerzadiguda Corporation, is currently undergoing training until May 20.

The training covers various aspects of disaster response and preparedness. Over the course of six days, participants receive instruction on topics such as fire extinguishing methods, rescue equipment usage and maintenance, types of disasters and their remedies, handling hoses and their maintenance, building collapse signs and symptoms, ropes and knots, as well as flood rescue operations.
