Jana Sena chief K Pawan Kalyan has said that his party is committed to the welfare of fishermen and alleged that the YSRCP is neglecting the welfare of fishermen.

In a statement here on Monday, he regretted that fishermen from AP were migrating to the neighbouring states seeking livelihood despite AP having a 970 KM long coastline.

Pawan Kalyan offered best wishes to the fisherman and their families on his and JSP’s behalf on the occasion of World Fishermen Day. “Is it a progressive step to issue GO No 217 which is hampering the livelihood of fishermen, most of whom are dependent on fishing in the lakes?” he questioned the government.

The government had ignored the progress of about 80 lakh fishermen in the state, he lashed out. Pawan Kalyan regretted that there are no basic amenities in the fishermen’s villages even today. The hardships of fishermen are exposed during the ‘Porata Yatra’ taken up by him and also on the occasion of the “Fishermen Progressive Yatra” initiated by the Janasena Party in February this year, he reminded.

The assurance given to the fishermen that they would be given Rs 10 lakh ex gratia in case of death during fishing in the sea had not been implemented properly even today, he alleged.

“The bereaved families have been made to suffer in the name of regulations. The Janasena Party is preparing plans to improve the living standards of fishermen. The party has also identified the need to provide education and health facilities properly in the fishermen’s villages apart from paying special attention to supplying drinking water,” he added.

Stating that providing life insurance and health insurance would ensure assurance to every fisherman’s family, he promised that the Janasena Party would always extend support to fishermen.
