Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy has alleged that the YSRCP-led government has betrayed the fishermen community in the state by revoking the Matsakara Bharosa scheme.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that in the combined AP state, the then YS Rajasekahar Reddy-headed government had washed its hands by distributing 31 KGs rice to the fishermen during the ban of fishing in the sea.

“When the TDP government came to power, the government extended Rs 4000 to all the eligible fishermen during the ban on fishing in the sea for the first time. After Jagan Mohan Reddy came to power, he revoked the Matsa Bharosa scheme”, he claimed.

The TDP MLA slammed that during the last three and half years, the Jagan Reddy government had not given fishing nuts and not extended help for the repairs of damaged fishing boats. He dared the YSRCP leaders to make a statement on the issues.

“During the TDP regime, new fishing boats were given in the place of damaged boats and new fishing nets were also distributed to them. Drying platforms were provided for the convenience of fishermen”, he claimed.

Accusing the YSRCP government of ruining the aquaculture sector in the state, he took strong exception for organising the World Fisheries day programme in Yerragondapalem, which is located far away from the sea which reflects the government’s sincerity in protecting the interests of the fishermen.

“Crores of worth fish were damaged when the crest gate of the Gundlakamma project collapsed but nothing was done to save the fishermen. Facilities have not been augmented in fishermen colonies”, he lashed out.
