TPCC President Revanth Reddy clarified that any Congress leader who wants to contest elections must apply for a party ticket. Candidates will be selected only on the basis of their ability to win.
He said that the application fee has been fixed at Rs 25,000 for SC and ST candidates and Rs 50,000 for general candidates. The application fee is non-refundable and the fee will be used for party programmes. The application process started on Friday.
Revanth said that applications will be accepted till August 25. He said that if anyone joins the party and asks for a ticket after August 25, the matter will be discussed in the PAC and a decision would be taken.
Revanth spoke to the media on Friday after releasing the application form compiled by the Congress for candidates who want to contest along with CLP leader Bhatti, Campaign Committee Chairman Madhu Yashki, Anjan Kumar Yadav and other leaders. He appealed to the people not to believe media reports that candidates have been finalised.
He appealed to the media not to mislead party activists. Surveys will be conducted on each applicant’s strengths and weaknesses. He said that social equations and the strengths of the candidates will be assessed and a report will be submitted to the Screening Committee. Finally, the Central Election Committee will finalise candidates, he said.
He said he is putting a full stop to speculations that they anyone has been promised a party ticket.
