The main accused in the sensational e-challans scam in which Rs 36.58 crore was misappropriated, was arrested. Disclosing this at a press conference here on Tuesday, Guntur range IG Palaraju said that the accused-1 in the scam- Kommireddy Avinash- was arrested.
The police seized 16 different properties located in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana worth Rs 13 crore. The accused used the ‘Amazon crowd services’ to misappropriate the money. They purchased lands with the money at Ongole, Hyderabad and other places and also deposited them in various banks, the IGP said.
The arrested Kommiredy Avinash is said to be the son-in-law of former DGP N Sambashiva Rao.
The AP police in October unearthed the major scam involving the diversion of money collected as fines through e-challans for traffic rules violators.
The amount collected from the traffic violators in the form of fines was Rs 36.53 crore and the money was diverted and misappropriated. IG Palaraju said that Kommireddy Avinash, his younger sister Akshitha and one Ravikiran are the main accused in the alleged scam.
