The 42 All India Police Equestrian Championship and mounted police duty meet 2023-24 has started on Tuesday at Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA). It will be conducted till January 5, 2024.
Anurag Garg, Additional Director of General, BSF, was the chief guest. He said, “We have come a long way from 1970, when this event was first organised by National Police Academy at Mount Abu and was known as the Police Horse Show. I am happy to note that there are 14 women participants in these events. But, now more women are joining the police. I am sure that over the next few years, we shall see more women participants in this championship”.
In this Championship, 22 equestrian teams, consisting of 610 participants and 340 horses from various State police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and Central Police Organisations (CPO), in as many as 34 events including Tent Pegging, Show Jumping, Quadrille and Dressage participated.
Since 1994, this event has been organized under the aegis of All India Police Sports Control Board. This event assists in promoting capabilities and proficiency in mounted police units of various police organisations. In its early years, about 30 horses and riders used to participate in this event and now the number has crossed 300.
