Awareness programme on intellectual property rights

The University College of Engineering, Osmania University (OU) on Saturday conducted an awareness programme on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
The IPR Cell of the OU sponsored by of Telangana State Council of Science and Technology (TSCOST) conducted the one-day programme on the theme ‘Patent Procedure and Technology Transfer’ for the benefit of inventors, faculty members and researchers.
Prof. GB Reddy, Senior Professor of Law and Nodal Officer, IPR Cell, OU, in his welcome address, emphasised the importance of IPR, significance of technology transfer and the need for fostering parenting culture in academics. Prof. M Kumar, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, OU, stressed the need for IPR awareness and encouraged researchers, students to apply for patents.
Prof. P Chandra Sekhar, Principal (i/c), University College of Engineering, highlighted the significance of IP for development of science and technology, and emphasised on its relevance to engineers; Ashok Ram Kumar, Senior Advocate, High Court of Telangana & Founder, Wordict-IP, has given a detailed overview of nexus between IP and technology transfer with live examples, stressed the need to convert Ph.Ds into patents, and explained the various ways of protecting the IP.
Subhajit Saha, Head-Legal & IPR, Resolute Group & Resolute4ip, discussed the modalities of protecting inventions via patent, at national and international levels, by clarifying the eligibility criteria for grant of patent, patentable and non-patentable subject matter.
A large number of faculty members of the university, its affiliated colleges and researchers participated in the programme.
