In a major fire accident, 20 huts were gutted and 10 LPG cylinders went off emitting loud thud at Adarsh Nagar area of the city, panicking the inhabitants of the colony, on Tuesday morning.
Loss of property due to the fire mishap could not be assessed immediately. However, cash and jewellery kept in the huts were completely destroyed in the fire mishap.
However, the authorities heaved a sigh of relief as there was no loss  of lives due to the fire accident as the residents of the huts left the city to take part in the Medaram festival.
The people living in the area caught in the grip of fear psychosis not knowing what is happening in the area.
On hearing the deafening sounds, the people living in the adjoining areas ran helter-skelter to escape the fire mishap.
The fire accident was attributed to the hut-dwellers lighting a lamp before the deity in one of the hutsbefore leaving for Medaramto attend the Sammakka-Saralamma festival commencing from Wednesday.
First one hut caught fire and fire soon it spread from one hut to the other triggering blasts of at least 10 LPG cylinders. In no time, the huts were reduced to ashes. It may be recalled that migrant labourers to the city.
