Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy depends on positive votes to retain power in the coming Assembly elections. In the previous Assembly elections, YSR Congress came to power with a landslide victory. It won 151 seats out of total 175 Assembly seats. In winning a record number of Assembly seats apart from sympathy on Jagan, the strong opposition on the than ruling party TDP among the people also came in handy to the YSR Congress. But this time the situation is different.
The YSR Congress has to depend only on positive vote in retaining power. In this issue, Jagan is very confident though the TDP is fighting with Jana Sena and the BJP alliance. In the ‘siddham’ public meetings, Jagan is asking the people to vote for YSR Congress in the coming Assembly elections if they feel that they benefited by his government.
In the last four-and-a-half years, Jagan implemented several welfare programmes benefiting a cross section of people. The families of poor sections in the society have benefited with two or three welfare schemes. With that confidence and courage only, Jagan is asking people to vote to his party. It is common that every ruling party will have anti-incumbency factor.
But, Jagan feels that the positive factor is more to his government than the anti-incumbency factor. Now the people of Andhra Pradesh have experienced the governments of both TDP rule of Chandrababu Naidu and the YSR Congress rule of Jagan.
Now Jagan wants that the people should compare his government with previous Chandrababu government. It is a fact that the people of Andhra Pradesh benefited more in Jagan’s government than in Chandrababu’s government. Apart from welfare schemes, Jagan brought village secretariats system and volunteers system which are benefiting the people in many ways. It is known fact that if TDP alliance will come to power the chief minister will be Chandrababu. Because of that only, Jagan wants comparision between his and Chandrababu governments. From the beginning, Jagan is depending on the people than the leaders of his party. With that confidence only, Jagan changed around 70 sitting MLAs and about 10 MPs for the coming elections. Jagan strongly feels that if people are with him, leaving the party by some leaders will have no affect on the prospects of the party in the elections.
