Dealing sternly with violations and illegal activities at the spas, District Collector S Dilli Rao has ordered the officials concerned to take immediate action on the cases registered so far. Reviewing the status of the cases along with Police, Task Force, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and ICDS officials at the District Collector’s office on Friday, Dilli Rao said that if the city neglects to pay special attention to anti-social activities in the name of spa culture, there is a possibility of spreading bad culture here in Vijayawada as in cities like Mumbai and Kolkata.

He said that according to Sections 18 and 19 of the ITP Act 1956, strict measures should be taken and the police, task force and labour departments should form teams and register cases and hold a review meeting every 15 days. He instructed that action should be taken on cases registered against massage centres.

The District Collector expressed his anger that there are 30 to 40 massage centres in the district but some of the spa centres are involved in unethical activities as it is clear that women are being lured into immoral activities through spa culture. He said that cases were registered against 10 centres indulging in such actions. He instructed that cases should be registered against the owners of the buildings that are rented to such centres and the buildings should be seized. The women caught in the centres should be shifted to women’s homes and sheltered after being counselled.
