Two die of diarrhoea; DC visits patients in hospital

As many as two children of PASS Manovikas Kendra died of diarrhoea and 16 are undergoing treatment and the condition of two of them is said to be very critical.
District Collector Venkateswar here on Tuesday visited the diarrhoea patients in the Ruila hospital on Tuesday. As many as 16 mentally retarded children who are in the People’s Action Social Service (PASS) Manovikas Kendra, located at Padmavathi Puram here, suffered diarrhoea and were admitted to the Ruia hospital here.  Two of the children died of diarrhoea.
Official sources said that there are 73 mentally retarded children in the PASS Manovikas Kendra, being run by an NGO, of which 16 fell ill with diarrhoea after taking food. The caretaker and the staff of the PASS Manovikas Kendra did not take steps to provide proper medicines or treatment to the children, resulting in the death of two children and the condition of another two children turned out to be critical.
After getting information about the incident, Collector Venkateswar visited the Ruia hospital today. He inquired with the doctors about the condition of the other children. He directed the doctors to provide the best medical treatment to the children. He also directed the officials concerned to visit the PASS Manovikas Kendra for the mentally retarded and study the situation prevailing there.
Later talking to the media, Collector Venkateswar said that two children died of diarrhoea since the organizers of the PASS Manovikas did not inform the matter to the officials by time. At present 16 children are undergoing treatment for diarrhoea in the Ruia hospital and the condition of two of them is said to be critical. The two children were shifted to the SVIMS hospital for better treatment, the Collector added. He said that he had ordered the officials to inspect all the care centres being run by various NGOs.
