In a move applauded by environmentalists and residents alike, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Environment, Pawan Kalyan, has taken decisive action to protect Mudasarlova Park, a vital green space in Visakhapatnam. Following concerns raised by retired IAS officer and environmentalist E.A.S. Sharma regarding potential construction activities within the park, Pawan Kalyan issued a directive to Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) officials. This directive instructs them to stop any actions that could negatively impact the environment surrounding Mudasarlova Park.
Sharma’s letter highlighted the park’s ecological importance. He noted that Mudasarlova Park serves as a habitat for 105 bird species and is a popular recreational area for hundreds of daily visitors. Sarma mentioned that when renowned environmentalist Rajendra Singh visited the city, a team of environmental activists developed a comprehensive protection plan for the reservoir, which was submitted to the GVMC Commissioner. He expressed regret that no action has been taken on the plan.
Demonstrating a commitment to environmental conservation, Pawan Kalyan responded promptly to these concerns. He emphasized the critical need to protect Mudasarlova Park from detrimental activities. Citing news reports suggesting construction threats to the park, he demanded immediate clarification from GVMC officials. Reassuringly, GVMC officials confirmed there are no plans for construction projects within Mudasarlova Park.
Deputy Chief Minister Kalyan’s swift and proactive response underscores the government’s dedication to preserving Andhra Pradesh’s natural habitats. This action has bolstered the government’s reputation for environmental stewardship. Furthermore, Pawan Kalyan’s leadership sets a commendable precedent for future governance, ensuring that development prioritizes environmental sustainability.
