All geared up for her upcoming series, actress Kritika Kamra will be seen playing a police cop in Gyaarah Gyaarah. The upcoming series on Zee5 also stars Raghav Juyal and Dhairya Karwah in the lead roles. After making the audience go ‘aww’ with her diverse and impressive performances, this series will certainly show the actress in a new light.
We join up with Tandav fame for an exclusive interview and the thriller cop series is set to release on August 9 with the promise of captivating audiences with its compelling story!
“I finally experienced what my colleagues had always said: wearing a police uniform while performing for celluloid makes you feel something inside of you! I felt proud of myself as soon as I put it on. Suddenly, I was walking straight ahead of me. I believed that I was here to serve a purpose and bear responsibilities. I truly admire law enforcement officials!” reveals Kritika Kamra about a delightful self-discovery she made while filming Gyaarah Gyaarah.
She also mentioned to us that, in her observation, there aren’t many female police officers. “Being in their shoes for a short while gave me a sense of how well they hold up! I realised that achieving a dominant position in a station full of guys is not an easy job. It’s challenging, as you should be commended for your physical prowess and aggressiveness.”
She captivates us with anecdotes like, “I spent a lot more time with Dhairya than with Raghav while we were off-set (she laughs). He’s more laid back in real life!” as she shares those behind-the-scenes adventures with her fellow actors. “Despite the fact that I have funnier scenes with Raghav in the series, I still have more. For this show, I then picked up the skill of manual car driving! I was meant to drive an old Bolero; I practiced driving in Bombay, but the next thing I knew, I was driving up the slopes in Dehradun and Mussoorie. Is that even possible to imagine? The pace was giving me trouble! Thus, it was Raghav’s responsibility to shift gears whenever we were in the car together (we giggled).”
The filmmaker and Kritika had a stimulating conversation on time travel and space after filming Gyaarah Gyaarah. She thought the series’ concept was so great and original that it didn’t need a resolution! Maybe that’s why she agreed to do this show? Who knows? She was genuinely enthralled with everything on the sets of Gyaarah Gyaarah, from talking about ideologies to quantum physics, as she informed us. It’s interesting to learn that she basically had a lot of in-depth conversations after the series ended. “I feel like I understand these themes a little better now!” exclaims Kritika!
The actress also tells us, “You just can’t underestimate your senses! That’s why I used a specific scent for my character! Nothing is new; many actors have done it. Your character might occasionally be defined by your perfume! When I come back from a break, for instance, it’s that perfume that quickly transports you to your role. Everything in the highly realistic show was based on information from the Uttarakhand Police. That’s right—we had on actual uniforms! The landscape is another thing that truly works in our favour as actors. I can just picture Dehradun! I felt completely cut off from Mumbai. Being an actor is magical to me.”
“I had watched Pagglait before coming on to the sets of Gyaarah Gyaarah,” she said in response to our following query. “I was aware of his delicate style as a director. Actors typically have to adjust to directors’ styles, but ours was really different. He always had a different story to tell each of us and a different actor’s brief. As you point out, the magical aspect he added—the fact that the clock struck 11:11—was what made it distinctive or an “ahaaa” moment. Two walkie-talkies seem to connect inexplicably! This was genuinely a novel approach to police dramas, unheard of in India before.”
As she looks forward to hearing from the fans, Kritika shares, “I have a lot of anxiety. Nothing about me is objective! Absolutely, in fact, I’m aware that my admirers have high hopes for me. Their opinions should be a prize for us. I hope this gamble pays off! For Gyaarah Gyaarah, I will never forget filming in chilly conditions. Also, I had a lot of delicious food on good days! I cannot believe how many offers I am getting, but I am dying to play a humorous part right now. Dark humour or a kind of intelligent comedy!” In the series, Kritika portrays a police officer. She only talked about what drew her to the part and how she believes that portraying Vamika, the character she plays, has allowed her to fully express her acting abilities.
