Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has said that the people of the city will be healthy only when the city is clean. The Minister was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the Rs 10-lakh storm-water drain and cement concrete roads in Raparti Nagar located in 58th Division of the city with TUFIDC funds.
New colonies are being developed and construction activity has been taken up in 58th division of the city. Therefore, measures would be initiated to develop roads and drains in the division, he said. The government sanctioned Rs 1 crore for development of amenities in Dorai colony, he said asking the authorities to use the funds for public purpose. The Minister asked the engineers, contractors and municipal commissioners to start the works first in the areas where the people have been facing difficulties. He asked them to ensure the quality of the works executed. The roads and drainages should be developed rather qualitatively and the levelling should be fine.
He asked them to make good use of the funds being released by the state government and take steps to ensure that the people and their surroundings are kept tidy. Stagnation of drainage water in vacant sites would mushroom the growth of mosquitoes and will become the haunting ground for the pigs causing diseases.
Further, he asked them to speak with owners of the vacant sites to level their sites to ensure that there is no water stagnation. There is a need to erect fence around the vacant sites. He asked the officials to implement special action plan to remove the garbage from the vacant sites to make the sites cleaned by the site owners.
