Guv presides over White Cane Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma presided over the White Cane Day 2024 celebration at Samskruti Hall in Raj Bhavan on Tuesday. The event, organised with the NGO Friendly Environment for Disabled (FED), emphasised the importance of white cane as a symbol of independence for the visually-impaired.
The Governor appreciated the strength of the disabled community, saying, “The Divyang Jan have an extraordinary energy, overcoming challenges with divine strength.” He also applauded an inspiring dance performance by Swapna, a physically challenged artiste, and announced a Rs.50,000 reward for her outstanding performance.
The event featured cultural performances by disabled individuals and highlighted new assistive technologies.

Governor Jishnu Dev Varma launched India’s first Assistive Compact Device, developed by young innovator Kiran. Asha demonstrated QR code technology for the visually impaired and AI’s potential in the disability space was discussed. Books for visually impaired students and awards for 51 educators were also presented.
