East Godavari District Collector P Prashanthi visited Tadiparru village in Undrajavaram mandal on Tuesday, following the tragic electrocution of four individuals while they were installing flex banners on Monday.
The Collector, accompanied by Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) Rani Sushmita, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) G. Dev Kumar, and other officials, inspected the site where the electrocution occurred. She inquired with the officials about the circumstances that led to the incident.
During her visit, Collector Prashanthi advised the villagers to avoid erecting large flexi banners, as such activities could result in electrocution. “A small act of negligence can cost lives,” she cautioned.
She also conveyed that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had expressed deep grief over the incident and the loss of four lives. The government, she said, had announced an ex gratia payment of ?5 lakh to each of the bereaved families.
The tragic electrocution occurred while the victims were putting up large flexi banners to mark the occasion of the unveiling of social reformer Sardar Papanna’s statue. Following the incident, the Collector directed the removal of the giant banners and cutouts from the village. She urged the villagers to cooperate with the officials in dismantling the large flexes and cutouts for safety reasons.
Meanwhile, the last rites of the four deceased—B. Veerraju (26), M. Manikantha (28), P. Nagendra (23), and K. Krishna (20)—were performed in the village on Tuesday. Heart-wrenching scenes were witnessed as grieving family members and relatives bid a tearful farewell to the young victims, who were remembered by their loved ones with immense sorrow.
