Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat Raj Pawan Kalyan has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the handling of law and order by the police, warning that the situation would change if he took charge of the Home portfolio.
Speaking at a public meeting in Gollaprolu, Pithapuram constituency, on Monday, Pawan Kalyan voiced his concerns over the rising attacks on women and questioned the effectiveness of the police force. He remarked, “We should consider adopting the Uttar Pradesh model to curb atrocities against women. The approach taken by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath could be a solution for Andhra Pradesh as well.”
Pawan Kalyan criticised the police, questioning their commitment to duty and asserting that the people are holding leaders accountable for the decline in law and order. “I instruct the DGP and Intelligence officials to take swift action to restore law and order. I am not concerned about power; I care about the safety of the people,” he stated firmly.
He strongly objected to the practice of linking heinous crimes to caste, condemning attempts to do so in a recent case involving the assault and murder of a young girl.
Pawan Kalyan further criticised the police for inaction when threats were made openly against a leader, questioning, “Are you not IPS officers? Didn’t you study BNS? Don’t wait until it’s too late to act.” He admitted he had lost patience but said he was exercising restraint due to his position.a
The Deputy Chief Minister urged Home Minister V Anitha to take responsibility for law and order, pointing to countries like Dubai and Singapore where such crimes are rare. He raised concerns over the disappearance of 30,000 women and girls during the YSRCP regime, criticising the previous administration’s silence on the matter.
Kalyan also cautioned YSRCP leaders to refrain from making abusive and misleading statements, warning of consequences if they continue. He confidently asserted that Opposition leaders would not be able to disrupt the NDA alliance in the state, citing Haryana’s recent elections as evidence that people desire a stable government.
