Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced the construction of 4.50 lakh Indiramma houses across the state in one first year. In all, 3,500 houses are being constructed in each Assembly constituency. The Chief Minister stated that the government will provide Rs 5 lakh towards each house.
Earlier, the Chief Minister launched the Indiramma Houses mobile app at the state Secretariat on Thursday.
Speaking on this occasion, CM Revanth Reddy praised former PM Indira Gandhi for bringing self-respect to the poor by building houses in the country. The CM said that the poor would show self respect when they owned a house and hence former PM Indira Gandhi built houses for the needy. “We can find villages without temples but there is no habitation without Indiramma Colony in this country. Indira Gandhi gave the slogan of ‘food, shelter and clothes’. Surplus land had been distributed to tribals and dalits through the Land Ceiling Act and construction of houses had been undertaken.
The Chief Minister said that Rs.10,000 was allocated for the construction of a house during Indiramma rule and it had been increased to Rs 1.25 lakh during the YS Rajasekhara Reddy regime. Now, the government was giving Rs.5 lakhs per house. The CM assured that Rs. 5 lakhs would be given to the beneficiaries through green channel without any shortcomings. The houses would be granted to those who owned land in the first year, and priority would be given to the physically disabled, agricultural labourers, sanitation workers, Dalits, tribals, widows and transgenders. Houses were allotted to tribals during Indira Gandhi and CM NT Rama Rao’s governments. Subsequently, the houses were not allotted to them; the CM said and added that his government would provide a special quota for tribals in the allotment of Indiramma houses in the constituencies which come under ITDAs. Houses would be allotted to the Chenchus of Nallamala, Gonds of Adilabad and the Koyas in Bhadrachalam in the special quota. Revanth Reddy recalled that he himself visited Indravelli and handed over the title deeds of Indiramma houses to the beneficiaries. The Chief Minister suggested that the government was not recommending to follow a particular pattern to construct Indiramma houses. However, model houses should be built in every mandal head quarters by using every inch of land. The beneficiaries should also visit the model houses. The beneficiaries were being given freedom to construct additional rooms as per their affordability.
Revanth Reddy said that the Congress government, which was in power in the state for ten years from 2004 to 2014, had built 25.04 lakh Indiramma houses. The CM criticized former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for comparing Indiramma houses to bird nests and constructing only 65,000 houses during his 10- year regime. The Congress government also allocated Rs.195 crore for the completion of 35,000 houses, which had been left incomplete by the KCR government. KCR did not complete the construction of double bedroom houses in 10 years. The BRS leader built Pragati Bhavan like a mansion, Secretariat for Vastu reasons and the farmhouses in Gajwel and Janwada in just six months. The CM lambasted KCR for not completing the construction of double bedroom houses during his tenure and instead opened belt shops in every colony. Artificial Intelligence was also being used to examine the applications for Indiramma houses, the CM said, while assuring people that the government will use technical expertise at every stage from the foundation level to the slab level to ensure that only the deserving people got Indiramma houses. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy revealed that apart from restoring the housing department, which had been wound up by the KCR regime, the government would provide adequate staff to the department. The CM announced that the loans taken in the past for the construction of Indiramma houses were being waived off. KCR should change his thinking process, the Chief Minister said and pointed out that the Congress government had handed over the state to KCR with a surplus budget of Rs.16,000 crore. After 10 years of rule, the BRS leader put the state in a deep financial crisis with a mounting debt burden of Rs.7 lakh crore. The Congress government was taking corrective measures to overcome debts. The Chief Minister suggested that KCR, who had served as Chief Minister and Union Minister, should use his experience and give advice and suggestions to the state government. As opposition leaders, former CMs of undivided Andhra Pradesh YS Rajashekhar Reddy and N Chandrababu Naidu used to give suggestions to the governments in those days. As an MLA Harish Rao met Rajasekhar Reddy when he was the Chief Minister and gave him a bouquet and sought help for the development of Siddipet constituency and suggested Harish to meet him also. The CM said that when he was in the Opposition, he had met Ministers and secured hundreds of crores of rupees for the development of the Kodangal constituency. Revanth Reddy expressed concern that KCR never helped the opposition parties to meet ruling party leaders and created enmity between them as if they were soldiers of an enemy country. The CM asserted that there should be a change in the thinking process of KCR. Despite having political differences, all leaders in Tamil Nadu were united, the CM said, inviting KCR to come together to give instructions to the 17 Lok Sabha and seven Rajya Sabha members in the state on the issues to be achieved from the Centre.
Childish behavior
Revanth Reddy said that the government was paying an interest of Rs.6,500 crore per month on the debts incurred during the 10 years of KCR’s rule. After taking the reins of governance, six months had gone by for the Lok Sabha election and the model code of conduct period. So, they could fully focus on governance for only five months. The government waived off Rs.21,000 crore in farm loans and also gave jobs.
The government was moving forward balancing development and welfare. His government had one in one year what the BRS could not do in 10 years. Harish and KTR are behaving like children who did not do homework and tore up the notes. The CM suggested that KCR should discipline the two leaders. The CM fired a salvo at the two leaders for obstructing development like ‘Marichu Subahulla and Rahu Ketu’. KCR was older in age and experience and hence the BRS leader should maintain dignity and teach his children and stop them from creating nuisance. The Opposition had priority in the Legislative Assembly. The CM suggested that KCR should come to the Assembly and point out any errors in the governance.
Revanth Reddy said that the Telangana Talli statue would be unveiled at the Secretariat on December 9. The celebrations would also be organized in the areas around the Secretariat premises, Necklace Road and Tank Bund on December 7, 8 and 9. A festive atmosphere will be created with programmes reflecting Telangana culture and opening the stalls of women’s associations. The festive atmosphere would be similar to Bonalu and Ganesh idol immersion.
The Chief Minister called upon all people to participate in the celebrations. Leader of the Opposition KCR, Union Ministers Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay along with MIM, CPI and other opposition leaders were also being invited for the unveiling of Telangana talli statue. State Minister Ponnam Prabhakar will invite the central ministers and KCR. The CM suggested that the Leader of the Opposition should come to this festival and maintain the dignity of senior level leadership.
Law will take its course
Revanth Reddy said that Harish Rao and KTR were childish and hence obstructing development. KCR should tell them about manners. The Chief Minister warned that it was not good for anyone to behave according to their will. “The law will take its course”. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, State Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, State Excise Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao, MLC and PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, MLA Danam Nagender were present at the programme. Advisor Vem Narender Reddy, State Government Advisors Kesava Rao, Shabbir Ali, Planning Board Vice Chairman Chinna Reddy, CS Shanti Kumari and others also participated.
