The 9th Nizam of the Asaf Jahi Dynasty, Nawab Raunaq Yar Khan, attended an international seminar titled The Nizam Era (1724–2024): A 300-Year Journey of Legacy & Inspiration.
The event took place at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) on Saturday. It was inaugurated by Mohd Ali Shabbir, Advisor to the Telangana Government, with a keynote address by Maulana Khaled Saifullah Rehmani, president of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. Former Special Chief Secretary Ajay Mishra also attended.
On this occasion, Nawab Raunaq Yar Khan reflected on the dynasty’s legacy, emphasiDing its relevance in modern India.
He stated that understanding the contributions of all 10 Nizams creates unity in diversity and enriches democratic values.
Key discussions included the financial state of the royal family, secularism, and education. Scholars presented research approved by Munsif’s committee, exploring lesser-known aspects of the Asaf Jahi legacy.
The seminar also saw historians and scholars worldwide, highlighting the dynasty’s journey from its founder, Qamaruddin, in 1724, to Hyderabad’s annexation in 1948.
Discussions examined the dynasty’s integration into democratic India and its alignment with Islamic principles like consensus (Ijma).
A notable focus was the historical recognition of the 10 Nizams, questioning why only seven are widely recognised.
The goal was to honour all ten rulers, ensuring their contributions are celebrated as part of Hyderabad Deccan’s history. This seminar was both an academic platform and a space to inspire dialogue about the dynasty’s role in shaping India’s past, present, and future.
