YSRCP Central Constituency Coordinator and former MLA Malladi Vishnu has strongly condemned the demolition of the Abhayanjaneya Swamy Temple at Seethammadhara in Visakhapatnam, alleging it was carried out without prior notice or proper procedure.
Vishnu criticised the ruling coalition government for increasing temple demolitions and attacks on priests since assuming power. He termed the act a grave offence and recalled similar incidents, including the demolition of the Nagamma Temple in Nellore for road expansion and the displacement of deity idols.
He further pointed to the destruction of the Trikoteswara Swamy and Kanakadurga Amma Temples in Palnadu and the demolition of a 40-year-old Nagendra Swamy Temple at Madhuranagar canal bund. Vishnu accused the government of targeting Hindu sentiments and politicising temple demolitions, citing instances such as the dismantling of a cow shelter at Sri Krishna Mandir.
The former MLA also criticised the previous TDP-Jana Sena-BJP coalition government for demolishing over 100 temples between 2014-19 under the pretext of road expansion, alleging deity idols were transported in garbage trucks during that time. Vishnu demanded strict action against those responsible and warned of large-scale YSRCP protests if the government fails to protect Hindu temples and sentiments.
