After COVID-19, respiratory illnesses have risen, making early detection of lung cancer crucial, said health experts at an International Interventional Pulmonology Conference held by Yashoda Hospitals on Sunday.
BRONCHUS-2025 was the 4th edition of BRONCHUS series, World Association on Interventional Pulmonology with more than 60 international faculty, more than 150 national faculty and more than 3,000 pulmonology doctors in this International Interventional Pulmonology Conference and live workshop.
Speaking on this occasion, Yashoda Group Hospitals Managing Director, Dr GS Rao, said that the lung medicine department, which is modernising and expanding its scope, has become a platform for sharing medical knowledge among medical experts from different countries to focus on the latest innovations in medical science.
Lung cancer kills more people than any other cancer type, with an estimated 1.8 million deaths worldwide. Lung cancer is diagnosed very late, mostly in stage 3 and 4 due to lack of early diagnostic advances. In India, lung cancer accounts for nearly 8.5 per cent of cancer cases and is one of the top three leading cancers, said the Yashoda Hospitals Senior Interventional Pulmonologist Dr Harikishan.
During Covid-19 and after it was like air ambulances dropping patients with lung illness and awareness of early prediction can reduce it.
Leading physicians around the world are Prof Felix Herth – Thorax clinic (Germany), Prof Kyle Hogarth – University of Chicago (USA), Dr Michael Pritchett (USA), Dr Pallav Shah (UK) and other foreign physicians who participated in the programme.
