An ultra-modern pediatric cancer ward and ICU were inaugurated by BIACH and RI Chairman Nandamuri Balakrishna at Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (BIACH&RI) on World Childhood Cancer Day.
As part of the event, BIACH&RI also launched a special cancer care fund to support children in need of cancer treatment. Speaking at the inauguration, Nandamuri Balakrishna emphasised the importance of better healthcare and education for children.
He noted that when a child is diagnosed with cancer, the entire family suffers. BIACH&RI, committed to pediatric cancer care, has expanded its ward from 12 to 120 beds. The hospital provides treatments ranging from chemotherapy to advanced bone marrow transplants (BMT), having successfully completed over 200 BMT procedures, the highest in India.
Considering the rising number of cases, Balakrishna announced plans to expand hospital facilities, including a new center in Andhra Pradesh’s capital region. He urged donors to contribute to the special cancer care fund, ensuring treatment for underprivileged children.
Meanwhile, Dr Veerandra Patil, Pediatric Oncologist at BIACH&RI, highlighted the significance of World Childhood Cancer Day and its 2025 theme, “Inspiring Action.” He stressed the need for collective efforts to support children battling cancer and assured that the hospital’s specialized pediatric team is ready to provide care.
Later, Balakrishna distributed gifts to children, interacted with parents, and took photos with them.
