“What is Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy doing when Andhra Pradesh is diverting Krishna waters freely,” senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao posted on his X account on Sunday.
“It is shocking that the Telangana government is silently watching when Andhra Pradesh is infringing on Telangana’s water rights. What are Chief Minister @revanth_anumula and Irrigation Minister @Uttam INC doing when AP is diverting Krishna waters? Why is the TG government silent when AP has been diverting 10,000 cusecs per day from the Nagarjunasagar Right Canal for the past three months? Why is it silent when 646 TMCs were diverted in this water year alone? Doesn’t Congress care about Telangana’s water interests? The Sagar Dam is under the control of Central forces. Although water should be released only under their supervision, AP is diverting water at will. AP is taking away the quota that should be stored in Srisailam and Sagar reservoirs for Telangana’s drinking water needs, but the TG government is not even bothered. Even though there is no surplus storage in Srisailam and Sagar reservoirs, AP is already behaving aggressively by transferring water through the Pothireddypadu and Sagar Right canals.
Every year, a meeting of the Trimen Committee under the KRMB is supposed to be held for water usage in connection with joint projects. But this year, the Trimen Committee has not met so far. This means that the board’s affairs are very bad.
The Congress government has failed miserably in pressuring the board and preventing AP from transferring water. Due to AP’s aggression and the Telangana government’s negligence, Nagarjuna Sagar and Srisailam reservoirs are empty now. Summer has not fully begun, and Telangana farmers are taking to the streets to protest for water.
If the AP water diversion is not stopped now, the Sagar Ayacut will be in danger. If the water level in Sagar drops, Hyderabad will also face drinking water problems. We demand that the state government immediately respond and stop AP’s water diversion and pressure the Krishna Board.”
