Lakshmi Manchu’s fashion game has always turned heads and made headlines. Lakshmi now uses her understanding of fashion to design her looks for Telusa Telusa, a high octane track from Agninakshatram. Telusa Telusa is an anthem of women empowerment and features Lakshmi, her daughter Nirvana and several dancers.
Lakshmi has put together an array of looks transforming her from an uptown diva to rugged hip hop street dancer and breaking into the traditional kalaripayattu costume with ease. Her exceptional work on the costumes for Telusa Telusa perfectly blends modern aesthetics with traditional nuances.
Lakshmi’s look in Telusa Telusa shows off the song’s dynamic energy. The song opens with Manchu clad in coordinated ensembles, chunky jewellery and boots; she exudes oodles of charisma that perfectly matches the song’s rhythm.
The next look is notch bolder where we see Lakshmi in a white ruffled body con short dress with large puffed sleeves and adding a dash of boho element in the structured outfit with multiple bracelets. Lakshmi totally owns the third look in a scarlet Fringe dress giving a major Carrie Bradshaw vibe, only more lethal with that dark cascading hair worn loose.
The unexpected twist comes as Lakshmi showcases her versatility by delivering a rap verse that adds a unique layer to the song’s narrative and the scene changes from high street fashion to more raw frames of street dancer donning hip hop outfits. Lakshmi is seen in high waisted pleated pants rolled up with a black crop top and a coordinated bomber jacket with rolled up sleeves, she finished the look with a high ponytail and gigantic hoops.
The quick cuts of the visuals and Laksmi’s multiple look changes makes the song visually vibrant as well. Laksmi is next seen in shimmery track pants with one leg pulled up teamed with a brick red bralette, a pale grey bomber jacket. The choice of jewellery gets very exciting with this look- a thick chain around her neck with a delicate mesh-like haath phool. She completes the look with red sports shoes and a baseball cap. The rap segment ends with Lakshmi seen in cropped pants and a colour blocked hoodie giving out Harlem vibes.
The song reaches a crescendo where Lakshmi does some Kalaraipayattu moves in a traditional outfit but only more fashionable. The black traditional costume has an enormous floral embellishment stitched to the blouse almost like a centrepiece.
Speaking about handling the costumes for Telusa Telusa, Lakshmi Manchu shared, “Telusa Telusa is a song that resonates deeply with me and it was a delight to bring its dynamic energy to the screen. I wanted to stretch myself with this song and get experimental. We had ace dancers performing to songs and an array of high end cars in the frames so that my look had to stand out amidst so many elements. Wearing those coordinated ensembles, chunky jewellery, and boots made me feel empowered and ready to embrace the song’s rhythm. I’m excited for everyone to see how Telusa Telusa becomes a part of Agninakshatram’s legacy.”
Agninakshatram is in the final phase of post production and will gear up for release soon.
