All the churches in Vijayawada are decked for the grand Christmas celebrations as the people start going to the church right from late evening on December 24. Christmas will be celebrated from December 24 in the evening until December 25. On December 24, thousands of devotees will be congregating at various churches for prayers.
Churches are illuminated and decorated for the Christmas celebrations. The church authorities have made arrangements for Christmas celebrations on a grand note. People gathered in large numbers at prominent Churches in the city the Gunadala Mary Matha Shrine, St Paul’s Cathedral, Infant Jesus Catholic Church Philadelphia AG Church, CSI All Saints Church, The Indian Pentecostal Church, Messiah Fellowship Church, Zion Fellowship Church and other churches in the city.
During Sunday twilight, Christian devotees in large numbers were seen thronging into the churches and at Gunadala Mary Matha shrine large numbers of devotees have already reached the church premises to celebrate Christmas. On the other hand the church authorities have made seating arrangements for the devotees as huge numbers come to the churches to participate in the mass on the occasion and also to celebrate and greet one another on Christmas.
Meanwhile, the roads are flooded with denizens, shopping and purchasing things to celebrate Christmas. Bakeries, sweet shops and traditional homemade food outlets are busy in their business.
G John of One-Town in Vijayawada says that during the good olden days, they used to prepare homemade foods on the occasion of Christmas. They start preparation at least a week prior to the festival, but now things have changed as everyone is preoccupied with their daily routine and opt to buy everything from outside. He said that at this age they cannot flex their muscles to prepare the items for the festival and order online as his children have come to celebrate the festival.
