In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Amaravati on 2 May to restart the State capital development works, a high-level coordination meeting was held in Vijayawada on Monday. Ministers and senior officials from various departments took part in the review.

Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav urged all departments to work in close coordination to ensure the smooth conduct of the Prime Minister’s visit. He emphasised that there should be no lapses in providing essential facilities such as drinking water and food for attendees. He also directed officials to upgrade the approach roads leading to the public meeting venue. Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana instructed the police and other departments to ensure smooth traffic flow on the day of the visit.

He cautioned against repeating logistical issues witnessed during the Prime Minister’s earlier visits to Chilakaluripet and Visakhapatnam, and stressed the need for well-organised public amenities.
Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar reiterated the need for seamless inter-departmental coordination to make the visit a success.

Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand briefed attendees on the tentative itinerary. According to the plan, Prime Minister Modi will arrive at Gannavaram Airport at 3:00 PM and then proceed by helicopter to a helipad near the State Secretariat. From there, he will undertake a 1.2 km roadshow to the main event venue behind the Secretariat. The roadshow will feature cultural performances and public participation.

The main programme at Amaravati Pavilion will begin at 3:45 PM and conclude by 5:00 PM, after which the Prime Minister will return to Gannavaram Airport.

Nodal officer Veerapandian gave a PowerPoint presentation on the arrangements. Ten parking zones with drinking water and public facilities are being set up. Separate routes via Karakatta and Seed Axis roads have been earmarked for VIPs, while the general public can access the venue through six routes from Vijayawada and Guntur. Temporary routes are also being developed to ease congestion. All roads are being repaired to ensure they are pothole-free and free of bottlenecks.

Officials have been tasked with ensuring the smooth distribution of food and beverages, including water, buttermilk, fruits, snacks and meals, for people arriving from different districts.
