The strike of Anganwadi workers and helpers entered 10 th day on Thursday and agitations across the state continued.
A large number of Anganwadi workers and helpers organized a dharna in front of the ICDS office in Madakashira town on Thursday. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, CPI Assembly constituency in-charge Pavitra condemned Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s adamant attitude.
She questioned why the Chief Minister has not responded to the strike of Anganwadi workers and helpers and their agitation for the last 10 days. The CPI leader warned of intensifying the agitation unless the government responded.
She lamented that thousands of Anganwadi workers and helpers have been on the roads for the last 10 days demanding the government to concede their legitimate demands but the government has not responded so far.
In Nandyal, the agitating Anganwadi workers held a novel protest by fixing a noose with a rope to their necks in front of the Tahasildar office at Kovelakuntla town on Thursday. They raised slogans demanding the government to hike their salaries.
Former MLA BC Janardhan Reddy’s wife BC Indira met the agitating Anganwadi workers and extended her solidarity. She donated Rs 10,000 for the Anganwadi workers’ agitation.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam party senior leader and former MLA GV Anjaneyulu assured of hiking the wages of Anganwadi workers and helpers if the TDP was voted to power.
The former MLA visited the agitating Anganwadi workers in Vinukonda and extended support on Thursday. He announced that the TDP is extending support to the Anganwadi workers and recalled that the then Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hiked their wages as per the assurance. The YSRCP government is unable to pay the salaries of the government employees in time, he slammed.
