Senior APCC leader Bodapati Babu Rao has demanded that the ‘arbitrary transfer’ of two Judges of Andhra Pradesh High Court, namely, Justice Battu Devanand and Justice D.Ramesh be reversed forthwith.
In a press release here on Sunday, Babu Rao said both the judges did not even complete two years in AP High Court. This is an arbitrary and meaningless transfer in the name of administrative reason, he observed.
The senior Congress leader said Justice Battu Devanand is the only Dalit Judge serving in AP High Court. With his untimely transfer, AP High Court is left without Dalit representation.
Babu Rao also demanded the immediate filling of all 37 judges vacancies in the AP High Court. The Supreme Court collegium should take steps to fill the vacancies first in AP High Court. The SC collegium should work for weaker section representation of judges in the AP High Court. The Supreme Court doesn’t have a policy in place, so far, for the transfer of HC judges. It should formulate a policy for the transfer of Judges first and then only transfers should take place. Till such time the Supreme Court collegium should put on hold all transfers of High Court Judges.
The senior APCC leader said, “We the Dalit community fraternity opine that the present arbitrary transfer of High Court judges is politically motivated. The transfers of the High Court judges in question should be stopped immediately,” he said.
