APSRTC earns Rs 141 cr from Pre-Sankranti bus services

Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has earned revenue of Rs 141 crore through Pre-Sankranti special bus service starting from January 6 to 14. The corporation operated a record number of 3,392 special buses during the pre-Sankranti period.

Collecting normal fare for this Sankranti special buses attracted passengers from other modes which, in turn, resulted in increased gross revenue for the Corporation. The Corporation earned Rs 7.90 cr additional revenue even without 50 percent extra fares during the current year compared to last year’s Rs 7.17 cr. The total revenue during the period this year is Rs 141 cr compared to Rs 107 cr of last year.

This year, APSRTC operated 1,483 special buses from Hyderabad compared to 824 buses operated last year to various places across AP.

In spite of the lack of proper infrastructure facilities in Hyderabad for the large-scale operation of buses, the Corporation could operate special services without any complaints from the passengers.

People of AP, Telangana and other places took preference APSRTC buses vis-a-vis private buses in view of the availability of an adequate number of RTC buses at normal fares. The facility of 10 percent concession on return journey ticket fare also attracted passengers towards APSRTC. Last year, APSRTC operated 2,400 special buses only during the pre-Sankranti period.

It may be recalled that APSRTC issued a media release on December 16, 2022, that plans are afoot to operate 3120 special buses during the pre-Sankranti period. Buses for Advance reservation of seats for return journeys are being added continuously based on the demand, particularly to Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, and other inter-state routes.

APSRTC VC&MD Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao and KS Brahmananda Reddy ED (O) thanked the passengers for patronising during the Pre-Sankranti period.
