Area under crops increases in Suryapet dist: Jagadish Reddy

The area under various crops has increased in the Suryapet district to 6,18,105 acres during the last nine years as against 3,42,465 acres in the past, according to Minister for Energy G Jagadish Reddy.

This stands as an example of the soil becoming fertile in the new State.

The paddy yield has gone up to 12,02,200 tonnes now as against 4,16,500 tonnes in the past, achieving a record yield of paddy.

The Kaleshwaram project has turned the lands in Suryapeta fertile, he said. The district is deeply indebted to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for ensuring that the district got irrigation facilities.

Addressing a gathering, after hoisting the national flag here on Tuesday, the Minister said that the people have been enjoying the fruits of Independence as a result of sacrifices made by martyrs for the sake of the nation. The whole nation is indebted to the martyrs, he said.

In Telangana, which is the result of struggles, the State government under the leadership of the Chief Minister put the state on a high road of development and set an example for other states to emulate Telangana.

He said Rs 36,720 crore have been spent for the development of the district, which is unprecedented in the annals of the district. He put the expenditure incurred on the development of agriculture and allied sectors was Rs 7123 crore.

The government spent Rs 2,964 crore to implement Rytu Bandhu in the district, Rs 1032 crore to implement the loan waiver scheme, Rs 178.80 crore to provide insurance cover to the farmers’ families under Rytu Bima and incurred Rs 2,848.54 crore for irrigation development, he said.
