In a case of bigamy, a person allegedly forced his first wife to consume pesticide by torturing her in agriculture fields at Timmakapalli. The first wife was first taken to a private hospital in Medak and later shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad where she succumbed undergoing treatment on Thursday.
She was identified as Swaroopa, the first wife of Ramesh.
Ramesh married a girl, who happened to be his relative’s daughter and took her as his second wife recently. To this, Swaroopa did not object at all, it is learnt.
However, soon clashes erupted in the family as the second wife, Manjula, allegedly assaulted Swaroopa many times, the villagers said.
Swaroopa’s relatives complained that Manjula refused to live with Ramesh if he continued to live with his first wife. Against this backdrop, Ramesh recently took Swaroopa to his fields and made her consume pesticide and tortured her in the presence of his father Rupula Naik and Manjula, according to allegations levelled by Swaroopa’s father Barmawat Hari Singh.
Swaroopa’s relatives set fire to the house of Ramesh. Ramesh and his family members are absconding.
Following the incident, tension prevailed in the village. The police registered a case.
