BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar asked Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar to make the Centre issue an official statement that the state must implement quotas for BCs on its own.
He made it clear that the government would have implemented BC reservations already if such a provision existed.
It may be recalled that Sanjay had said on Wednesday that the responsibility for implementing the 42 per cent reservations for BCs belongs to the state government. Sanjay had also said that the Telangana Congress government had introduced the 42 per cent quota Bill for BCs only to appease Muslims.
Addressing the media in New Delhi on Thursday, Ponnam asked Sanjay to reveal whether the BJP, which is in alliance with the TDP in Andhra Pradesh, will make the TDP government remove the 4 per cent reservations for Muslims there.
Ponnam recalled that Prime Minister Modi had announced when he was Chief Minister of Gujarat that they would give reservations to Muslims.
