He said that the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will play a major role in this process and India has achieved many successes in providing missiles and advanced defense technologies.
The 20th Yarlagadda Sriramulu Endowment Lecture was organised under the joint auspices of the Institute of Engineers, AP and Malaxmi Group on the theme ‘Evolving Defense Ecosystem towards Atmanirbhar Bharat’ on Monday. Dr Satish Reddy, who attended the programme as the chief guest, said that ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ was possible in the field of defense with mutual cooperation between research institutions, educational institutions and industries. He explained that Atmanirbhar Bharat would discuss the need for a strong defense ecosystem and welcome the collaboration of startups in innovation. He asserted that India’s transition from ‘Make in India’ to ‘Make for the World’ was not far away. Continuous research and development was essential for India to emerge as a major force in the international defense market. He clarified that the success of ‘Mission Shakti’ was a testament to collective strength and had become the epitome of a self-reliant and technologically advanced India. It was explained that the defense research sector provided special support to small-scale industries and technology was being transferred in 90 types of products to 107 organisations across the country as development production partners.
Yarlagadda Harichandra Prasad, founder and chief mentor Malaxmi Group, said that the lecture was conducted every year in the name of his father, the late Yarlagadda Sriramulu, which provided an opportunity to the people of Vijayawada to meet with experts from various fields. He asserted that Dr Satish Reddy’s services to the country as DRDO Chairman were extraordinary.
State Council of Higher Education Chairman Prof K Hemachandra Reddy, Dr CV Sriram, Prof MLS Deva Kumar, chairmen and secretaries of the Institute of Engineers Andhra Pradesh branch, and Malaxmi group CEO Sandeep Mandava participated in the programme.
