Now, she stands poised to leave an indelible mark on the global stage with the premiere of The Shameless, under the visionary direction of Konstantin Bojanov, at the Cannes Film Festival.
She portrays Durva, a character embroiled in moral complexities and societal norms. In an exclusive interview, The Warrior Queen of Jhansi actress offers a glimpse into the making of The Shameless and shares her insights into her journey as an actor.
“I was profoundly delighted to contribute to this exceptional project,” Auroshikha reveals, adding, “As an actor, I actively seek out roles that are unconventional and pose significant challenges. That’s precisely what captivated me about my character in the film. Portraying a person vastly different from myself and bringing that character to life was both demanding and immensely gratifying.”
When asked about her feelings regarding the film’s premiere at Cannes, she expresses her overwhelming joy as she says, “When I first heard the news from my director and my producer, I was numb for a fraction of a second and was trying to search for the perfect expression. This is a dream come true. I feel ecstatic. It’s an honour to represent the film on such a prestigious platform and present it to a global audience. I am both happy and humbled by this opportunity.”
Delving into her character Durva, described as confrontational and focused on securing her daily livelihood above all, the Chatrapathi fame shares her approach to portraying such complexity. “My director, meticulously outlined the character sketch for ‘Durva,’ my assigned role, providing invaluable clarity for my preparation. The character, with its nuanced shades of grey, demanded a delicate balance. I dedicated substantial effort to understanding and embodying this complexity,” she explains.
Reflecting on the challenges faced during filming, she emphasises the importance of preparation, elaborating, “Given the nuanced shades of grey inherent to my character, it was of paramount importance that I prepare for it with utmost perfection. Konstantin not only wrote a brilliant script but also breathed life into each character.”
Drawing from her past experiences in films like The Warrior Queen of Jhansi and Lomad, she stresses the significance of each role in shaping her craft. “For me, both the story and the role are integral parts of the film. Each film represents a new chapter, and every character needs to be nurtured,” asserts the actress.
In closing, the Lomad actress expresses her eagerness to explore opportunities in the South Indian film industry. She enthuses, “I am already part of the South Indian industry, having worked in Malayalam and Telugu feature films. That said, I am eagerly looking forward to taking on more projects within the South Indian film industry.”
