Avanigadda women, Jaggampeta men lift Kabaddi titles

Avanigadda Assembly Constituency Women’s team from the Krishna district lifted the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Zone-2 Kabaddi Championship, while the Jaggampeta Assembly Constituency men’s team from the Kakinada district lifted the men’s Kabaddi championship.

As part of ‘Jagananna Kreeda Sambaralu’, the SAAP conducted a one-day Zone-2 Kabaddi tournament for men and women at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada on Tuesday. SAAP Chairman Byreddy Siddharth Reddy inaugurated the tournament along with NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao.

In the women’s finals, the Avanigadda Assembly Constituency (Krishna District) beat the Narsapuram Assembly Constituency (West Godavari) by 44-9 points. Earlier, these two teams defeated Jaggampeta constituency (Kakinada), and Rajamahendravaram Urban (East Godavari) respectively and reached the finals. Due to the rain, the SAAP officials announced Jaggampeta and Rajamahendravaram Urban constituencies bagged combined third place.

While in the men’s section finals, Jaggampeta Assembly Constituency beat the Mummidivaram Assembly Constituency by 28-27 points and bagged the men’s championship. Both teams fought for victory and all players showed all-around talent.

In the men section’s first semi-final match, Jaggampeta Assembly Constituency (Kakinada) defeated Gudivada Assembly Constituency (Krishna) by 34-32 points, while in the second semi-final match, Mummidivaram Assembly Constituency (Dr Br Ambedkar Konaseema) beat Rajamahendravaram Urban Constituency (East Godavari) by 43-27 points and reached the finals. Both Gudivada and Rajamahendravaram Urban teams stood in the third position jointly.

Later, SAAP Sports Officer P Narasimha Reddy presented trophies to the winners, runners and third-place winners. Both Men’s and Women’s winners’ and runners’ teams qualified for the Jagananna Kreeda Sambaralu state-level tournament.

SAAP encouraging talented sportspersons
Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh Chairman Byreddy Siddharth Reddy has said that the SAAP is conducting Chief Minister’s Cup and SAAP Leagues to encourage the talented sportspersons in the State. As part of the ‘Jagananna Kreeda Sambaralu’, the SAAP has conducted inter-assembly constituency sports meets and now conducts inter-zonal tournaments, he said. He further said the SAAP is preparing the outstanding players for the National Games which will be held in Goa next year. For this SAAP is planning for conducting intensive coaching camps for talented sportspersons, he added. Andhra Pradesh Planning Board Chairman and Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi, NTR District Collector Dr S Dilli Rao, District Sports Authority CEO U Srinivasa Rao, Chief Coach SA Azeez, and coaches P Ishaq, Ravi, Y Sivaramakrishna, and Jagadish participated.
