To mark World Hypertension Day, Vijayawada Divisional Railway Hospital organised an awareness programme on hypertension on Friday under theme ‘Know Your Numbers’, emphasising the importance of monitoring blood pressure regularly. Dr M Sowribala, Chief Medical Superintendent at the hospital, said that the theme of this year’s World Hypertension Day is ‘Know Your Numbers’.
Dr M Jaideep, Additional Chief Medical Superintendent, Health and Family Welfare, welcomed the audience and briefed them on the importance of World Hypertension Day, its prevalence, and the 2024 theme. Dr T Ram Manohar, cardiologist, gave an audio-video presentation on the causes, symptoms, complications, treatment and prevention measures of hypertension. Dr. Manohar stated that following diet discipline, lifestyle changes, and practising meditation and yoga are the best ways to limit hypertension and stress.
Dr Nazeer Hussain, Consultant, Ophthalmology, gave an AV presentation on the effects of hypertension on the eyes and its treatment. Dr Bharathi, Nephrologist, gave an AV presentation on hypertension and kidney failure. She also answered various queries raised by the participants.
Addressing the gathering, Dr M Sowribala, CMS, emphasised the importance of prioritising health and wellness, especially for railway employees who work in demanding environments. The Railway Hospital organised a free health camp, where patients were screened for hypertension, ECG, random blood sugar, renal function tests and lipid profile tests to assess the comorbidities and complications. The hospital’s medical team, led by Dr Sowribala, provided free consultations and check-ups to railway employees and their families.
