B12 deficiency may cause episodes of anger outbursts

Must read

A city-based Neurologist has said that deficiency of vitamin B 12 could cause episodes of anger outburst and long menstrual periods going beyond seven days could also produce similar episodes.
Dr Sudheer Kumar, Neurologist at the Apollo hospital, shared a case study of a patient who presented episodes of anger. The Neurologist took to X and said, “27-year-old Mrs. Laila (name changed) presented with episodes of anger outbursts and restlessness for the past two months. There were no obvious reasons for her mood swings.
Laila also suffered from unusually long periods of menstrual bleeding lasting 15 days every month (hypermenorrhea).”
Regular consultation with physician and gynecologist did not yield any specific cause for her underlying symptoms.  She had turned into a strict vegetarian about a year back.  Investigations revealed a low vitamin B12 deficiency (the level was 59 pg/mL).”
Kumar diagnosed severe deficiency of vitamin B12 causing mood disturbances and hypermenorrhea; the doctor discussed the issue with the patient and her husband and put Laila on vitamin B12 supplement.
The Neurologist suggested that people with unexplained mood swings must be checked for vitamin B 12 deficiency.
