Syed Sohel Ryan, who shot to fame with Bigg Boss, has proven himself as a talented young actor with his work. He is all set to entertain the Telugu audience once again with his new film Mr. Pregnant releasing today. Produced by Appi Reddy, Ravindar Reddy Sajjala, and Venkat Annapareddy under the banner of Mic Movies, this film is directed by debutant Srinivas Vinjanampati. What caught our attention about this movie was its concept. The roles are reversed here; the man gets pregnant. The concept itself is very new to the Telugu audience; moreover, the director took inspiration from his real life to write the film’s story.
That being said, Mr. Pregnant, aka Sohel, is super excited about how the movie turned out.
The actor, who became a household name after his stint on the reality show Bigg Boss. However, he was initially a little doubtful whether the audience would like to watch him in theaters as the lead actor. “But I believe that if young heroes like me do variety movies and make new efforts, the audience will come to our movies. That’s why I am doing a new genre movie like Mr. Pregnant. I don’t think making this movie is risky. For young actors like me, doing routine commercial projects is a risk,” said the actor.
But how was it playing a pregnant man with that tummy? He shared, “Playing a pregnant character was a different experience for me. Two sisters in my house were pregnant when I accepted this film. I observed how they walked, talked, and did things. Also, our director, Srinivas, is a family person. He gives good advice. I have played this character well. I wore prosthetics weighing three kilograms while doing this character. That little weight was bothering me. We can imagine how hard it is for women to carry us for nine months.”
This movie shows what kind of films Sohel is interested in. Giving more clarity about his story selection process and his interests, he said, “I’m selective when it comes to my films. Like Ayushmann Khurana in Bollywood, I want to do different movies in Telugu.”
The makers hosted a special premiere for 100 pregnant women in the city, and Sohel says many women shed tears after the show. This gives you a hint that the movie is going to be high on emotions and that it is a must-watch for all women.
When this movie was announced, the cast and crew faced a lot of trolling; however, that didn’t bother them because they were confident about the movie’s content. The only disappointment Sohel had was the delay in his release. “I went into depression when the release of this movie was delayed. Because I have high hopes for this movie. I believe this movie will be a turning point in my career,” he said.
“Mic Movies’ Appireddy Garu is supporting new directors and heroes with his movies. Movies are being made with a budget of at least five to six crores. If he wants, he can spend some more money and try star heroes. But they are giving opportunities to new people. This is a love story between Gautham and Mahi. First it’s fun, followed by a love story, then it turns emotional,” he added. On the work front, he is doing another film called Katha Vere Vuntadi.
