Bandi urges govt to come to rescue of toddy tappers

Must read

BJP general secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar has alleged that the Congress government has failed to come to the rescue of the toddy tappers.
He inspected a palm garden destroyed by fire in Taduru village in Sircilla district on Monday. He interacted with local toddy tappers and locals. He consoled the toddy tappers who sustained significant loss.
Later talking to media, he came down like a ton of bricks on Congress government. What happened to the promise made by Congress to grow toddy trees in five acres and give 90 per cent subsidy on plants and drip equipment.
He found fault with the Congress government for not keeping up its promise of naming Janagoan district after Sardar Sarvai Papanna, an iconic figure for toddy tapper community.
In the four months after the Congress come to power, it did not allot land at least in one village for growing toddy trees, he queried.
The Congress conveniently ignored the promises made by it after coming to power. Naming the Jangaon district after Sardar Sarvai Papanna would not incur any expenditure at all. The toddy tappers, moreover, appreciate the gesture. Who stopped the Congress from doing all this, he wondered.
He alleged that the police has been preventing people gathering near toddy gardens to savour on fresh toddy, he alleged.
It was high time the government come to the rescue of the toddy tappers.
