Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh for South India, Shelley Salehin, paid a goodwill visit to Osmania University on Wednesday. He interacted with administrators and seven students from Bangladesh pursuing undergraduate courses at Osmania University.
Prof. D Ravinder, Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University, shared with the diplomat about the facilities available at Osmania University and the association with 53 countries across the globe whose students are pursuing courses at the university. He also highlighted various initiatives for promoting entrepreneurship among students through the Osmania Technology Business Incubation Centre and the team’s pursuits under the 21-point agenda.
Shelley Salehin recalled his meeting with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, and his vision for education. He emphasised the commonalities between India and Bangladesh in terms of history, culture and language, along with the 41,000 km common border.
He reiterated that the relationship between the two countries goes beyond strategic importance, mentioning that the national anthems of both countries were composed by Rabindranath Tagore.
The Deputy High Commissioner also shared the progress of education in Bangladesh across various verticals, addressing challenges like climate change and disaster management. He emphasised the need for collaborative and joint research between both countries in the field of academics and conveyed his astonishment at how logistics were handled at Osmania University, catering to nearly three-and-a-half lakh students under the campus, constituent and affiliated colleges.
Prof. L Siva Rama Krishna conveyed the facilities offered to foreign students and Osmania University’s track record in meeting the educational needs of students from abroad over the years and discussed plans. The programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Prof. Saritha Reddy.
