Bannerghatta lion is new attraction at Vandalur zoo

Must read

A male lion that was received from the Bannerghatta Zoological Park, Karnataka, is the latest attraction at the Arignar Anna Zoological park, popularly known as the Vandalur zoo, here.

The lion, which was quarantined for three weeks, will be exhibited to visitors soon, a senior official at the AAZP said on Saturday.

“We received a lion from the Bannerghatta zoo through the animal exchange programme and in return we gave a male white tiger,” the official said.

The zoo suffered a setback during the COVID-19 outbreak when two lions succumbed to the infection while two others died due to health-related issues. The zoo saw a steep decline in revenue and footfall during the lockdown.

During the Pongal (mid-January harvest) festival, the zoo attracted about one lakh visitors. The zoo hopes to receive a fairly larger number of visitors this summer.

Apart from Asiatic lions, tigers, Indian Gaur, rhinoceros, sambar, black buck and spotted deer are also among the numerous attractions. Recently, the administration set up ponds and a shower for the two elephants – Rohini and Prakruthi.
