Versatile and reliable, Barun Sobti’s approach in Badtameez Dil was the perfect companion for romance. Because, his way of romancing arguably went best when it was accompanied by some drama. We have seen how plethora has produced many incredible romantic dramas that earned near-universal critical acclaim but with the way Barun was materialised well in the show with a strong fan support, it was a marvelous spectacle to see for us as a viewer.

In an exclusive conversation with one of the most in-demand actors on both television and OTT, Barun Sobti tosses, “I don’t like to do overtly emotional-dramas for the masses. I am more fond of genuine rom-coms with very light-hearted scenes. Emotions here and there work for me, but not entirely. There are not many raw romantic dramas coming out online these days, at least I haven’t binge-watched any lately. With the advent of streaming platforms, our consumers have become so fierce in the way they would like to consume online shows. Therefore, the filmmakers are making intelligent content!”

But why do you think the Asur fame must have bobbed for a yes, in particular? We were rivetting on the telephonic call! So, he said, “I have had enough cerebral shows. Plotting in the similar way, started to contemplate that even others would also be interested in watching shows that are rather cavalier. There was none coming out, from a really long time! All the shows are so conceptual in their nature.”

Leaving audiences experiencing every feeling at once with this show, the operational manager-turned-actor made it so evident, adding a different “tadka” to it by manifesting that love can also be a blow to the ego, a punch to the gut, and a pain in the ass! Doesn’t always have to be patient. Don’t believe us?

Hear it from the same unmediated factor we had on call, “It’s not a myth that has developed that like magnets, we are attracted to our polar opposites. Two plus two is always going to be four. Even in old romantic movies that we viewed, we have seen the good girl attracted to the bad boy. No twins fall in love (he throws in a little bit of sarcasm there). I have been married for the last twenty-four years of my life, my wife and I are still polar opposites and we do attract (he chuckled).”

Commenting on a broad hint on the present dating concept, the actor advised, “I am out of this dating-zone, married with two kids. Some people are calling it empty and exciting these days, the way new trends have emerged in the dating concept. I suggest millennials to take ownership and not be dependent in pursuit of a partner via a dating app, just. Make yourself interesting, bring out your own colours and you’ll never have to swipe left/right.”

He was re-uniting with Riddhi Dogra, both of them belong to the same television fraternity and for the former it’s always so stirring to share a professional relationship with the latter. In fact, calling to mind our conversation with Riddhi, we can muse on how she claimed Barun is one of those male actors for her who makes her feel comfortable while performing some bosoming scenes. Riddhi’s discomfort was always understood by the latter.

“Both of us were shooting two shows simultaneously. I can remember both of us struggling equally on the sets! None of these shows were shot at one go. The feeling in Belgrade was something else. It’s one of the perfect atmospheres for romancing your leading lady.”

He expressed some more, “I had long hours of shooting. I was there for three weeks and had only one day off! There was a very famous Tesla museum over there that I wanted to see, but hard luck because the day I visited it was shut! Was having a damn day.” Admitting openly, he has still not had his break-through moment yet, the actor is just fulfilling his dreams and thriving in this entertainment industry. “I am working on my intellect. Even if any of my shows flop, you’ll never see me cribbing about it,” he added. So, not settling for anything less than extraordinary is Barun Sobti. He lives for finding good strategies when it comes to choosing scripts, has so much of enthusiasm in him to advance in the industry and with all the insights, distinctions — he is following it all through.
